ACCESS FAMILY PROGRAMS

ACCESS FAMILY PROGRAMS


体育投注网 The Intrepid Museum offers monthly programs for children (ages 5-17) with learning and developmental disabilities. Similar family programs for teens (15+) and adults with developmental disabilities are offered six times a year. These two-hour programs take place on select Sundays during regular Museum hours. Families take a guided, interactive tour of the Museum and participate in art-making activities that everyone can enjoy.

Aircraft Design
Learn about the forces that help helicopters and airplanes take off and fly! Families will get up close to aircraft and compare different types, before experimenting with design challenges.

Navigation: Finding Your Way
From ships and planes to submarines and even space shuttles, vessels of all types use navigation to find their way. Families will explore the ship and try out the navigation tools from each of these vessels, followed by a planetarium show that demonstrates the ways people have navigated throughout history and how we find our way today.

June 7
Squadron Maneuvers
Learn how the crew worked together to move, fuel and prepare planes for flight. Families will explore the Museum and work together to complete science activities and create art.

July 12
Under the Weather
Heat, rain, snow- oh no! Explore the aircraft carrier Intrepid and learn about the challenges of working in different weather conditions on board the ship or while flying an airplane. Families will then create projects for weather-preparedness!

August 2
Space Race
What does a ship have to do with outer space? Discover Intrepid's connection to America's early ventures into space and explore the future of space travel. Tour will include the special exhibition When We Went to the Moon.

September 13
Jobs Aboard
Find out why Intrepid was a "city at sea" and learn about different jobs aboard the ship! Visit spaces where sailors lived and worked, then participate in activities inspired by their experiences.

October 4
Build it, Sail it, Fly it
Explore Intrepid and its aircraft to discover how they were built and changed over time. Families will learn how artifacts are fixed and maintained today and practice problem-solving and collaboration through challenges and activities.

November 8
Life in Space
Discover what it takes to travel to and from space! Visit the Space Shuttle Pavilion to learn about life in space and practice training like an astronaut.

December 6
Traditions Aboard Intrepid
Explore Intrepid's historical spaces and find out how crew members celebrated special occasions with their fellow sailors. Families will make connections to their own traditions and take home celebratory projects.
